AUTISM AND AYURVEDA

WHAT CAUSES AUTISM ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA?
• When his/her mind is afflicted by the predominance of Rajas and Tamas
• When doshas in his/her body are aggravated and vitiated.
• When he/she takes food consisting of unwholesome and unclean ingredients
mutually contradictory properties, neglecting prescribed dietary rules (viz. confirmity with nature etc.)
• When his/her body is exceedingly depleted.
• When he/she is not in proper state of health due to other diseases.
• When his/her mind is afflicted over and over again by passion, anger, greed,
excitement, fear, attachment, excretion, anxiety and grief.
In the circumstances enumerated above the mind gets seriously affected and the intellect loses its balance. So the doshas aggravated and vitiated enter the cardiac region and obstruct the channels of the mind resulting in Autism (characterized by the perversion of mind, intellect, consciousness, knowledge, memory, desire, manners, behaviors and conduct.)
Ayurvedic Management
Oletion, fomentation, emesis, purgation, enema, alleviation therapies, errhines, fumigation, collyrium, nasya (snuff), ointment, deletion. Suitable diets should be given according to the requirements of the patient. Such other therapies as would work against the causative factors of the diseases should also be given.
Ayurveda believes that the root cause of Autism is due to poor metabolism – (the process of absorption of ingested food from intestine).

Autism - Some Facts
1 in 150 children is diagnosed with autism
1 in 94 boys is on the autism spectrum

Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism

JAUNDICE

Jaundice is a yellow coloring of the eyes and skin caused by too much of bilirubin in the blood.
What is bilirubin?
Bilirubin is a yellowish breakdown product of red blood cells, remove from the blood by the liver and excreted. If not excreted, it builds up in the blood. This causes a yellow tint to the eyes and skin.

Vomitting
Fever
Weightloss
Itching
Stomach pain
Dark –colored urine
Clay-colored stool
How do you detect jaundice?
The affected person as well as the doctor usually notice yellow coloring of the eyes ans skin (jaundice). Liver function tests are thereafter done to determine the cause of jaundice. These blood tests check the levels of chemicals that indicate impaired function of liver cells.
What are the causes of jaundice?
Jaundice can be caused by;
Immaturity of the liver, which happens in a large number of newborn infants.(This is usually normal, goes away on its own and resultsin noproblems).
Liver disease, such as liver infection, hepatitis, alcohol damage, buildup of toxins or hepatotoxic drugs (like anti-TB medicine) or cancer.
A stopped bile flow caused by certain drugs, gallstones or cancer.
Partial destruction of red blood cells, which may occur due to defects in red blood cells or medications, or infections.
Disorders that affect metabolism.
Is jaundice dangerous?Yes! If the liver does not become normal, severe jaundice may worsen into liver failure.
From the mid-twenties to age sixty, liver diseases are the third-highest disease-related cause of death.
If bilirubin levels become too high, babies with jaundice may sometimes get brain damage.
What can prevent jaundice?
In adults, the two most common causes of jaundice are viral liver infection or infectious hepatitis, and alcohol. Hepatitis B vaccine prevents early causes of viral hepatitis B.
Other types of jaundice may be treated with liver protective herbal supplements.
What are the treatments for the condition? Most cases of jaundice in a newborn do not need treatment, If newborn babies develop severe jaundice, they may be put under special lights. Treatment for other types of jaundice depends on the cause. Medications, including herbal hepatoprotective (liver protective) supplements, are used.
